    Basketball Rebounding Drills

This is one of several great basketball rebounding drills available to coaches at all levels

Basketball Rebounding Drills Purpose: To drill offensive rebounding and put backs under defensive pressure

    Organization:
Players are divided into 3 teams. Each team forms a line near the free throw line outside of the paint. The first player in each line steps into the paint. The coach stands near the free throw line with a ball.

    Procedure:
    1. The coach shoots the ball. The three players in the key all go for the rebound.

    2. The player that gets the rebound attempts a putback while the other two players pressure the shot.

    3. If a player scores, his team gets one point and he goes to the end of his line while the next player ion his team steps into the paint. Players must remain in the drill until they score a basket.

    4. Rules:

    A. The ball cannot hit the ground (the ball must be rebounded before it hits the ground and players cannot dribble the ball). If the ball hits the ground, players must pass the ball back out to the coach and the coach shoots again.

    B. Players must shoot the ball from inside the paint. If a player shoots from outside the paint the shot does not count. C. If a player misses a putback, play continues until a player scores or until the ball hits the ground or goes out of the paint (in which case the ball would be passed back to the coach for another shot.

    5. The first team to 5 made baskets wins. The 2 losing teams do a predetermined conditioning drill (usually pushups or sprints).

    Coaching Points

    1. Players should attempt to keep the ball high when rebounding and should go right back up for the putback as if they were on a pogo stick.

    2. Fouls are very rarely called in the drill, unless t begins to get out of hand. Players should expect to get fouled and develop the ability to finish the play and score anyway.

    3. This is consistently a player favorite.
